This was inside my fortune cookie tonight. It’s a bit sassy and spiteful, but still quite motivating. Seems quite fitting as I challenge myself to begin Illustration-a-Day.
The best backdrop for this fortune had to be my Mohawk Paper sketchbook I received from a paper rep awhile back. Love the paper, love the size, and it looks great on my desk.

A snake with a lisp? Really?!
Absolutely. As part of a recent project, I was responsible to create ten characters with unique personalities that followed a similar illustration style. Ten characters charged with protecting our parking spaces.
The snake was a later addition but quickly became a favorite. His personality comes through in the illustration and the quote of Sssseriousssly?!”
This project has inspired me to create a mini blog—An Illustration a Day. I know I’m not the first, but it’s an interesting concept and a unique challenge.

Each Easter, two things must happen, dying eggs and eating Cadbury eggs. Last week we made it a point to dye a few eggs.
After hard boiling a batch, I noticed an oddly shaped egg; pointy at the top and quite round on the bottom. Naturally, it was destined to become an alien Easter egg.

Type is everywhere in our world. In this landscape, there must exist good design and conscious decisions on type choice. Without this foresight, type becomes unreadable and often painful to view—much less read.
In thinking about this idea, I often find myself drawing type with the thought to someday develop a typeface, or two, or three. With that said, I realize the immense amount of work involved. Until then, I’ll continue to fill my sketchbook with word after word, serif, ligature, and...
